Linear Design

Total Length: Lengths up to 20 feet can be powered by 12 volt transformers. Runs up to 40 feet should use 24 volt transformers.
Light Level: For most cove and cabinet applications, 10 watts per foot is considered optimum lighting.
Transformer: Match transformer voltage and wattage rating to track run.
Track Capacity: Maximum wattage capacity for 12 volt system is 240 watts. Maximum wattage for 24 volt system is 480 watts. If more lighting is needed, split track runs into sections and power with independent transformers.
Voltage Drop: Factor in voltage drop when designing layout. (see chart below)

Linear Systems Transformers

Voltage Drop Guidelines

Overall distance is calculated from transformer to the last light on track.
12 guage wire should be used between transformer and live end.
Electronic transformers have the smallest size but the least run length.
12 volt 150 watt electronic transformer fully loaded can power a 20 foot run length.
12 volt 250 watt electronic transformer fully loaded can power a 16 foot run length.
Magnetic transformers have greater voltage carrying capability
12 volt SRT series transformers fully loaded can power a 25-30 foot run length.
24 volt transformers can handle double the run length of 12 volt transformers
