- What are the Advantages of Track Lighting?
- In a word "Versatility". Since power is transferred throughout the track there are few
restictions on lighting placement. Light heads are easily added, moved, replaced, or
removed to meet changing lighting needs.
- Where can Track Lighting be used?
- Virtually anywhere. The wide variety of head styles available can compliment
any room setting.
- What are the advantages of Low Voltage Lighting?
- Low voltage Halogen lights have many advantages. They can provide up to 66% savings in energy cost.
A 50 watt halogen lamp can replace a 150 watt flood lamp with cooler operating temperature while providing
whiter, truer light. It is also possible to create much smaller fixture heads which can
increase design possibilities.
- Where do I position the track and how many Fixtures do I need?
- This would depend on the effect you wish to create. Here are some rule-of-thumb guidelines for several of
the most popular uses for track lighting.
- Accent Lighting: Position track 60% of the distance from the wall relative to the distance from the center
of the object from the ceiling. Us a minimum of 1 fixture with narrow beam spread directed at the object.
- Task Lighting:Place track wherever it is needed. Choose lamp with correct beam spread to illuminate the desired area.
- Wall Washing: For ceilings up to 9' place the track 2'to 3'from the wall. For ceilings up to 12' place track between
3' to 4' from the wall. Space fixtures the same distance that the track is from the wall.
- Wall Grazing: Mount track 6" to 12" from wall. space fixture heads the same distance as the track is from
the wall.
- What are the different lamps used?
- You can achieve a variety of effect with the smae fixture head by simply changing bulbs. Different beam spreads and wattages are available
for each lamp type. Use narrow beam lamps for accent lighting and broad beam lamps for task and wall wash lighting.
Glossary
- Accent Lighting: Highlight objects or vertical surfaces such as paintings, statues etc.
- Beam Spread : Angle that which light intensity drops to 50% of its brightest point.
- Halogen : Low voltage lamps.
- Low Voltage: Each light head contains built in transformer to reduce line votage (110v) to 12v
- MR11: Halogen 20w and 35w
- MR16: Halogen 20w to 75w
- PAR: Lamp designed for display and accent lighting 40w to 150w.
- Task Lighting: Lighting for a specified area such as a table or desk top.
- Wall Washing: Create subtle base or background lighting by bouncing light off walls.
- Wall Grazing: Creates dramatic shadowing effects against draperies, brick stone, or stucco walls.
