What is Handing? Handing specifies latch operation on knob, lever, and locksets. As the door closes the beveled part of the latch must meet the strike plate first to provide proper lock operation. The flat side of the latch must be on the trailing edge of door closing. Handing is determined from the outside of the door.

What is the Passage Operation? The Passage operation knob and leverset is a non-locking operation set. The set is operational on both sides. Normally used in interior rooms that need access from both sides of door. Combined with a deadbolt the Passage knob and leverset can function as an entry lockset.
 


What is the Privacy Operation? The Privacy operation knob and leverset can be secured from the interior side. The set is operational on both sides. A pushbutton or center turnpiece on the interior side locks the door. An emergency release is accessed form a small hole on the exterior side of the door. The Privacy set is normally used in bed, bath, and other rooms that require some privacy.
 


What is the Patio Operation? The Patio operation is exactly like the Privacy operation mentioned above except there is no emergency release on the exterior side of the door.
 


What is the Dummy Operation? The Dummy operation knob and leverset is non-mechanical trim on both sides of door. The set acts simply as a door handle without an operational latch. A spring latch is sometimes used in which the knob is simply pulled to open the door. The Dummy set is normally used on one side of a double door, closets, or other doors that do not require latches. Dummy knobs can be used with deadbolts to function as an entry lockset.


What are the Dummy Operation options? The Dummy operation knob comes in several types. The Single Dummy operation consists of a single non-mechanical knob or lever and trim set for one side of the door only. The Dummy Pair (or Full Dummy) consists of 2 non-mechanical knobs or levers and trim sets for both sides of the door.
 


What is the Passage Single Keyed (Single Cylinder) Operation? The Passage Single Keyed lockset consists of a single keyed cylinder on the exterior side of the door with a turnpiece mechanism on the interior side of the lockset. The door can be locked and unlocked with a key on the exterior of the door or locked and unlocked with the turnpiece from the inside of the door. The style of lockset is normally used as an Entry or exterior door application.

What is the Double Keyed (Double Cylinder) Operation? The Double Keyed lockset consists of a pair of keyed cylinders one for each side of the door. The door must be locked or unlocked with a key on both sides of the door. The style of lockset is normally used as an Entry or exterior door application. double keyed operations are available on locksets and deadbolts.

What is the Latch? The latch is the mechanism which holds the door closed. .
 


What is the Strikeplate? The strikeplate is a metal plate mounted to the doorjamb (frame) which both guides and holds the latch.
 


Define Backset? Backset is the distance from the center of the door preparation hole to the edge of the door.
