Light up Your Yard

Outdoor lighting is a very important thing to take into consideration when decorating your home.  Having a patio or outdoor area in your house is wonderful, unless you have children running around in the dark.  This can create unneeded stress, anxiety or problems.  In order to avoid this problem, you can look into a wide variety of patio lighting fixtures that Garbes has available.  By just a fast click of the mouse, you can have easily installed lights at your door.  Outdoor lighting reclaims your outside living spaces well into the night. Because many families spend their daytime hours at work, it only makes good sense to spend some money on lights that make the garden usable during the hours you are at home.

Another great aspect of exterior lighting is that it helps direct foot traffic along pathways in the yard. Pathway lights can be placed wherever there is an elevation change such as steps or a hill.  Even a rock can cause a person to fall and injure themselves.  Therefore, one of the best ways you can avoid these stresses is to put lights at the entry to walkways and near pools and fountains.

In addition, landscape lighting seeks to make the garden safer by illuminating dark areas, thereby eliminating places for burglars to hide.

Nightscaping is the term used by designers to describe the design installation of lighting in the landscape.  Garden lighting aims to create a mood or effect in the garden. An example of effect lighting would be hanging a pendant light in a mesquite tree to create a pool of light beneath the canopy. Effect lighting is done mainly for aesthetics and is what makes the garden interesting at night. In desert landscaping, some of the most theatrical lighting effects come from imitating nature.

In nature there are two main sources: downlighting and backlighting. Downlighting is best described as how a full moon makes your plants look at night.  It is a source of light from above. Backlighting is the silhouetting of cacti, succulents or trees against a bright background. With bold and spiky plants like ocotillo, backlighting can create dramatic shadows, especially when the plants are set against walls where shadows are projected.

In desert areas, one popular form of outdoor lighting is string lights. These can be as simple as Christmas lights or as architectural as the lights suspended over the Park Place mall parking lot with steel cables. String lights usually sag in the center and can evoke everything from a Paris café to a neighborhood taco stand. String lights are fun and informal and fit in with the spirit of barrio gardens.
