Lighting
One thing to take into consideration is the amount of light you want in your home. This could predict the amount of lights you place in your rooms. Usually, one is not enough. A common lighting mistake is thinking one light is sufficient for an entire room. A room needs different light sources for different things you might be doing. There is also mood lighting to take into consideration. You might want different lighting for different company. For instance if you want to create a romantic mood, you will want softer and dimmer lighting. However, if you wanted to create a lighter, more sociable atmosphere, bright lights would be advantageous. If you have a painting or piece of artwork and want to create a conversational piece, accent lighting would be beneficial. Another idea is if you have enough lamps but want to make everything feel brighter, swap out old, yellowing lampshades for new ones. Another advantage to replacing lamp shades is that it can give the room a modern look. Old, yellowing shades could give the room a more antiquated look than you might desire. One way to cut down on cost is to replace incandescent light bulbs with halogen bulbs. These bulbs provide a clean, bright light. Fluorescent bulbs are a good option for energy efficiency, but most of the bulbs do not emit as much light. Back to Articles
