Choosing the Right Light
If you are decorating your home, the question of lighting is bound to come into play. Although deciding what light you need for your home may sound simple at first, there are several different factors to take into
account. It is important that you ask yourself several questions. If you look at your options carefully, it will be easier for you to decide what light will be most conducive to your lifestyle.
Some of the questions you might want to ask yourself revolve around if you incandescent or florescent light bulbs. You will need to consider what rooms you want to light. Your kitchen lighting will be different from your bedroom, which will be different
from the lighting in your office, which will be different from your closet, bathroom and patio. Every room should have a different kind of light, depending on what the room is being used for.
You will be able to decide what type of lighting is needed if you take into account the different tasks and activities you will be enjoying in the room. Some activities require brighter lights than others do. For instance, the
office, bathroom and kitchen will probably have brighter lights than those used for entertainment or relaxation. Dim lighting creates a more relaxed atmosphere, while bright lights generate energy and movement. When choosing lights, you should ask
yourself how bright you want your light to be, how direct you want the light, and hence, what light source will work best for you.
Dining and living areas usually need moderate brightness. A common rule for dining areas is two-hundred watts for a single fixture. A living room, however, usually requires many different fixtures that can range from seventy-five to one hundred watts.
These rooms are used mainly for entertainment, so how bright you make them depends on your guests tastes. Home offices, studies, and reading areas need moderate brightness. Be sure not to make the common mistake of over-lighting a reading area. Too much
light can create excess glare and shadow and causes a strain on your eyes. One idea that is useful for the indecisive shopper is to purchase a light dimmer. These are good for
practically any room. You can get different dimmers for different sections of the room as well. This can allow you to have a comfortable ambiance for a variety of guests and activities. Adaptability is the key ingredient to survival, so these adaptable
fixtures are sure to last a long time
Another thing to take into consideration is the types of lighting that is best for your home. The three types of lighting that you can choose from when decorating your home are halogen, fluorescent, and
incandescent lights. It is imperative that you take the brightness, directness and type of light into account when deciding on what kind of ambiance you want in your home.
